I’m a first year at Knox College. I plan to major in Modern Languages (Spanish and French) and maybe minor in Social Service. I volunteer at Nielsen Elementary with the Reading Buddies program, and at Community Preschool. I start a new job at the college’s Center for Volunteering soon.

I’m excited to be a part of Be The Change. My best friend is a hardcore feminist and a budding social activist who works with various sexual health advocacy organizations. This past year we’ve worked on empowering ourselves as women and letting other strong women inspire us, which is also a main tenet of BTC.

Hey! I am a sophomore International Relations and Educational Studies double major at Knox College. I am super excited to be a part of Be the Change and see it come to life. I love to dance, play ultimate frisbee, be involved in my community and am proud to be a woman. I cannot wait to see the shape Be the Change takes and hope it will inspire the young women of the Galesburg community to take positive action in their lives.

Meet BTC: Lola

Hi! I am a 20 year old sophmore at Knox College and majoring in History and Black Studies. I am from Aurora, Illinois which is right outside of Chicago. I want to end up working in Chicago helping to reform the Social Services departments, mainly focusing on child services such as DCFS. I am very excited to be a part of this group and can not wait to meet everyone else!

Meet BTC: Sarah

Hello!  My name is Sarah Miller, I’m from Phoenix, AZ, and I’m a 20 year old Junior at Knox College.  I am majoring in Gender/Women’s studies and minoring in Psychology, and I spend the rest of my time working in the campus library, singing in the Knox College Choir, and acting as new-member educator for Knox’s chapter of Tri-Delta.

I began to conceptualize Be The Change after working for four years in Phoenix for a non-profit called Workshops for Youth and Family, which fostered leadership, communication, and life skills through peer mentoring.

I believe strongly in the power of peer mentoring and collaboration, and I believe even more strongly in the power of youth to change their community for the betterBe The Change hopes to provide the tools for this type of action.

Welcome to our project!  We are a dedicated and passionate group of women, and we hope to share this passion with you!

Hi!

I’m a first year at Knox College. I plan on majoring in Political Science and Sociology. I am so glad to be a part of Be The Change! I believe that women everywhere should have every single door open to them.  My family is from India and at times my home is a very frustrating environment to be in because of the definition a woman must fit.

One of the projects I’d like to do with all the women of BTC is run a Women’s Health Fair for middle-school and high-school girls.

Can’t wait to meet everyone!

Hey everyone! I am a sophomore at Knox College and am majoring in Psychology and minoring in Theatre. I am so excited to be part of Be the Change and to get this group up and running. I have been involved in social change volunteering for about 6 years and love it. Back home I was a Volunteer Peer Leader for Workshops for Youth and Family (www.orho.org).

I am thrilled to be able to get to know the young women of Galesburg and to work with you to inspire change in the community!

Meet BTC: Kate

Hey Everyone!

I’m Kate. I’m a sophomore at Knox, and I’m majoring in History and Political Science.  I’m from the suburbs of Chicago and am so excited to be a member of Be The Change! I’m a member of Students Against Sexism in Society, have a radio show on WVKC, and run a feminist blog with my roommate. Some of my favorite things are writing, politics, coffee, my friends, and music.

I can’t wait to begin talking to and working with young women in Galesburg. I love community service and am excited for this project to begin!

Meet BTC: Helen

My name is Helen Marguerite Hapner and I’m from Chicago,IL. I am studying Political Science and Spanish and am a sophomore at Knox College. I enjoy running, swimming and reading. One thing I would like to see the Be the Change group do is provide college workshops geared towards women at Galesburg High School that provide information and support with applying for scholarships in particular.
